OpenAI published proposals for international AI safety standards focused on alignment research, frontier AI models, and recursive self-improvement (RSI).
The company called for cooperation among countries and recommended building on existing AI safety institutes while warning that fully autonomous RSI should not be pursued until it can be developed safely.
The proposals come amid growing concerns over AI-related security incidents and the potential loss of human oversight, alongside separate safety initiatives from Anthropic and calls for stronger independent evaluations of advanced AI systems.

Pope Leo XIV called for artificial intelligence development to be guided by wisdom and charity, emphasizing human dignity and the common good during the first AI4Peace international symposium in Rome.
In a message read at the Pontifical Lateran University, he encouraged participants to examine AI’s role in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, human rights, and global governance.
The Pope urged the use of AI to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and solidarity, framing technological innovation as a potential instrument of peace.

Basecamp Research Raises $140M Series C, Unveils Six-Program Pipeline in Test of Its AI
Basecamp Research has raised $140 million in a Series C financing round and unveiled a six-program development pipeline for its AI-driven biotechnology platform.
Founded in 2019, the company initially focused on building a large genetic database, requiring its founders to establish the feasibility of the approach with investors.
The financing and pipeline represent a new phase in the company’s efforts to apply AI and genetic data to drug discovery and development.

NVIDIA Inception AI Program Reaches 82 Mexican Startups
NVIDIA’s Inception program includes 82 Mexican startups, providing free access to technical training, developer tools, investor networks, and business resources without membership fees or equity requirements.
The program supports companies from prototype development to production, with participating startups applying AI across sectors such as IT services, healthcare, logistics, automotive, and entertainment.
Examples include Batech AI, which reduced customer onboarding time by 60% after moving its architecture to NVIDIA hardware, and logistics company OTIF, which uses NVIDIA’s H100 platform to predict cargo arrival times and optimize routes.

Google Takes the A.I. Data Center Race to Outer Space
Google plans to launch an experimental satellite on Oct. 1 as the first step in Project Suncatcher, an initiative to eventually operate A.I. data centers in orbit using solar power.
The satellite will carry four Tensor Processing Units with computing capacity roughly equivalent to one terrestrial server, allowing Google to test A.I. queries while studying the effects of radiation, cooling and launch conditions.
Google plans to launch two additional satellites in 2027 and is exploring networks of more than 80 satellites, although the company acknowledges that large-scale orbital data centers remain years away and face significant engineering and cost challenges.

ABB’s new direct current portfolio aims to rewire AI data center energy infrastructure
ABB launched Infinitus, a portfolio of direct current (DC) power solutions designed to support the rising energy demands of AI data centers while reducing infrastructure footprint and conversion losses.
The portfolio includes medium-voltage power systems, DC power distribution and protection, power-quality systems and cooling optimization, with ABB targeting 800 VDC architectures for high-density AI computing.
ABB estimates DC distribution can improve energy efficiency by more than 5%, while the first facilities using the complete Infinitus portfolio are expected to become operational within two to three years.
