Anthropic Reports Growing Misuse of AI in Cyberattacks, Espionage and Influence Operations
Anthropic’s latest threat intelligence report details malicious uses of Claude identified and disrupted between December 2025 and August 2026 across seven areas, including cyber operations, influence campaigns, surveillance, fraud, biological misuse, weapons development and illicit model distillation.
The report finds that AI is increasingly being used to automate reconnaissance, exploitation, data theft and other stages of cyberattacks, allowing individual operators to conduct campaigns that previously required teams of specialists.
Anthropic also observed AI being used to create fake social media networks, conduct espionage and target the AI supply chain itself through stolen API keys and session tokens.

Mexico’s Cyber Risk Grows as AI Meets Legacy Weaknesses
Mexico’s cybersecurity landscape is facing increasingly sophisticated threats alongside persistent weaknesses in legacy systems and basic security controls.
Proofpoint reported large-scale cybercrime campaigns targeting Mexican organizations and consumers through business and government-themed communications used to steal credentials, distribute malware, and gain unauthorized access.
The article also highlights the growing role of AI in cybersecurity leadership, while experts warn that outdated infrastructure, weak passwords, excessive internal trust, and unencrypted Telnet connections can leave organizations exposed despite modern security measures.
